These are some of the best players
on the Blazers. If you are ever watching a Blazer game, try to pick out these
players before the announcers do. The people around you will be impressed
when you know the names of the players, especially the long and weird ones
like Shareef Abdur-Rahim. The first player on my list is my personal favorite,
Rasheed Wallace! I think he was one of our best players, in shooting and
rebounding. Although Damon Stoudamire has been in trouble for marijuana, he
is a valuable member of the team. He excels at shooting three pointers.
Now Darius Miles is an interesting case. Right when one of our players named
Jeff Mcinnis was playing his best, he was traded to the Cleveland
Cavaliers for Miles. Darius is an addition that we really need, but
that doesn't mean that nobody misses Mcinnis. Along with Stoudamire,
Derek Anderson is a very good three point shooter. I can't really tell
you anything about Ruben Patterson and Dale Davis except for the fact
that they really bring on the defense.

| The next topic on my list is the stadium that the Blazers
play in when they have home games. The stadium was first named The
Memorial Coliseum. That is where they played for years until all the
fans coming to watch wouldn't fit. They needed more room, so they
got more. Right next to the Memorial Coliseum, they built a new, larger
stadium. This one they named The Rose Garden. Niether of these stadiums
are very attratcive, but that doesn't really matter. It is what is
on the inside that matters. On the inside, The Rose Garden is a well
built, fantastic building that seats thousands. Personally, I like the
new stadium much better! |

Have you ever wondered who guides the Blazers in their
practices? Who makes all the desisions? Who chooses what players
to put in? Well, that person of course is the coach. Portland has had
10 coaches since the team was founded in 1970. The first coach they ever
had was a man named Rolland Todd. Todd was only their coach for one year
before he was replaced by Stu Inman. He, too, didn't last long. The next
coach, though, stayed for two years. His name was Jack McCloskey. After
his time of trying to bring Portland to the championships, there
came the Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens. He also stayed for two years without
sucess. That is when the Blazers hit gold. In Jack Ramsay's first of ten
years of coaching them, he led them to win the championships. It was an
awesome year! Unfortunately, they haven't won one since. Next came Mike
Schuller, then Rick Adelman, then P.J. Carlesimo, and Mike Dunleavy. Dunleavy
got dumped a year or two ago and in his place came Maurice Cheeks. That
is who they have now. He is doing an ok job, but this is only his second
year and already the Blazers are out of the playoffs for the first time
in 21 years. I hope he does a better job next year so we will have a chance
of going to the championships! |
